So, I'm chillin' yesterday around 4:30 when my drummer friend, Thom, calls me. "What are you doing tonight!?!" he asked urgently. Come to find out that he and a bunch of other musician friends of mine were playing a gig in DC, backing-up a do-wop group called The Unexpected Boys at a performance for a large corporate event. While they were setting up, the organizer of the event had approached them about the possibility of playing an additional 30 minutes of dance tunes after The Boys were done, so that folks could get down.
It should be pointed out that the musicians all know each other from various gigs around town in various combinations, but they're not actually a band that plays together all the time. The bass player and guitarist play together in an "acoustic" duo called One Third Wish, but in that group, the bass player actually plays guitar and isn't used to playing bass and singing and, frankly, in front of 300 people is not the environment to learn. So the plan was that I would come down and play bass for the post show dancing time and she would sing.
First, some quick texts back and forth with The Understudies to discuss cancelling rehearsal that evening, then down to DC with my bass. I arrived just as The Unexpected Boys were starting....probably looking like the latest musician ever...hooray for CPT, even when it ain't!
The Boys wrapped up and five minutes later I was on stage. "Mustang Sally in C" and we were off!!!! It rocked! One of those amazing times when everything just gelled and all the notes fell in the right place.

Rehearsals have begun for F#@king Up Everything. It's another acting and playing bass gig, which is awesome for me....I always enjoy being able to kinda show what I can do all at once....not sure, how the audience feels, but for me it's sweet!
I know it's early in the process, but I'm already having a great time!
